Terracom Projects

USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station

A page from a Forest Service website that Terracom helped revamp with new content and navigation

Terracom helped the Social and Economic Dimensions of Ecosystem Management unit of the US Forest Service transform its website into an engaging tool for sharing its research. The challenge was to work within a new Forest Service format and graphics template to update the unit's site and broaden its appeal. The unit has since been combined with others in the Forest Service, and renamed People and Their Environments, but some content from the original website remains.

In follow-up projects, Terracom helped get valuable findings from researchers to forest managers, distilling information from several reports into a series of 11 quick-read fact sheets. The result: Tools to help managers address the conditions that fuel wildfire in places where homes and dense vegetation mix.

In another distillation, Terracom compiled, condensed and edited 18 report summaries to co-write a simple guide for communities working to protect themselves from wildfire.
